MEOSAR-satellitter registrerer typisk beaconet p\u00e5 under et minut. <\/p>\n\n<p>Cospas-Sarsat er det internationale, statsdrevne satellitsystem, der registrerer og sender n\u00f8dalarmer fra 406 MHz-beacons (PLB&#8217;er, EPIRB&#8217;er, ELT&#8217;er) til redningsmyndighederne \u2013 helt gratis for brugeren. N\u00e5r en beacon aktiveres, sender den et unikt digitalt ID (og, p\u00e5 GPS-aktiverede modeller, pr\u00e6cise koordinater). Dette signal opfanges af satellitter og videresendes til jordstationer (lokale brugerterminaler), som genererer en alarmbesked og sender den videre til et Mission Control Center.
