Men det har ogs\u00e5 skapt forvirring \u2013 blant flygere, sj\u00f8menn og friluftsentusiaster \u2013 om hvorvidt en smarttelefon n\u00e5 kan erstatte en dedikert personlig lokaliseringssignal (PLB) som <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/oceansignal.com\/pl\/products\/rescueme-plb1\/\">rescueME PLB1<\/a><\/strong> .  <\/p>\n\n<p>Ved f\u00f8rste \u00f8yekast ser det ut til at begge deler gj\u00f8r det samme: f\u00e5 hjelp n\u00e5r du sitter fast et avsidesliggende sted. Men i den virkelige verden \u2013 sterk vind, minusgrader, sjokkskader, kraftig regn, gjennomv\u00e5te kl\u00e6r, d\u00f8ende batterier eller en raskt utviklende n\u00f8dsituasjon \u2013 blir forskjellene mellom en smarttelefons satellitt-SOS-system og en PLB kritiske. MEOSAR-satellitter oppdager vanligvis fyrt\u00e5rnet p\u00e5 under ett minutt. <\/p>\n\n<p>Cospas-Sarsat er det internasjonale, statlig drevne satellittsystemet som oppdager og sender n\u00f8dvarsler fra 406 MHz-sendere (PLB-er, EPIRB-er, ELT-er) til redningsmyndighetene \u2013 helt gratis for brukeren. N\u00e5r en sender aktiveres, sender den en unik digital ID (og, p\u00e5 GPS-aktiverte modeller, presise koordinater). Dette signalet plukkes opp av satellitter og videresendes til bakkestasjoner (lokale brukerterminaler), som genererer en varslingsmelding og sender den til et kontrollsenter.
