Gruppen v\u00e5r besto av meg, nylig pensjonert etter 32 \u00e5r som ambulansearbeider, en pensjonert ambulansemekaniker og to n\u00e5v\u00e6rende ambulansearbeidere. Vi m\u00f8ttes p\u00e5 Mitchells Flat campingplass rundt kl. 19.00. To medlemmer hadde allerede satt opp leir og tent b\u00e5l.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Etter den vanlige ankomstrutinen begynte jeg \u00e5 sette opp mitt feltsengtelt under 4&#215;4-markisen min. Mot slutten av jobben f\u00f8lte jeg det jeg bare kan beskrive som en hest som sparket meg i brystet. Min implanterte defibrillator hadde utl\u00f8st seg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Jeg ble liggende p\u00e5 ryggen i gresset og se opp p\u00e5 stjernene. Alvoret i situasjonen gikk raskt opp for oss. Vi befant oss langt inne i Victorias h\u00f8yfjellsomr\u00e5de uten mobildekning. Jeg hadde behov for unders\u00f8kelse ved et st\u00f8rre sykehus i Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Bare en uke tidligere hadde jeg kj\u00f8pt og registrert min <a href=\"https:\/\/oceansignal.com\/pl\/products\/rescueme-plb1\/\">Ocean Signal rescueME PLB1.<\/a> Jeg kj\u00f8pte den for reiser, i h\u00e5p om at jeg aldri ville trenge \u00e5 bruke den. Den kvelden var jeg veldig glad for at jeg hadde den med meg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Jeg fortalte en av vennene mine hvor de kunne finne personlokaliseringssenderen. De aktiverte den i henhold til instruksjonene. Mens vi ventet, pakket gruppen utstyret mitt og forberedte et 4&#215;4-kj\u00f8ret\u00f8y. Vi kunne bruke det hvis vi trengte \u00e5 m\u00f8te redningsmannskapene et stykke fra leiren.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Den avsidesliggende campingplassen tillot kun 4&#215;4-tilgang. Det gjorde stedet vanskeligere for n\u00f8detatene \u00e5 n\u00e5. Kort tid etter h\u00f8rte vi helikopterrotorer i det fjerne. Flyet sirklet rundt omr\u00e5det mens mannskapet s\u00f8kte etter et trygt sted \u00e5 lande.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Vi kj\u00f8rte omtrent 100 meter til landingsstedet. Vi ankom f\u00f8r helikoptermannskapet hadde fullf\u00f8rt nedstengningsprosedyren.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">PolAir, Victoria Police Air Wing, ankom f\u00f8rst. Mannskapet fortalte oss at HEMS var like bak. Imidlertid fylte t\u00e5ke de omkringliggende dalene. Forholdene kunne ha forhindret HEMS-helikopteret fra \u00e5 ta av igjen etter landing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">PolAir fl\u00f8y meg til Mansfield lufthavn for \u00e5 m\u00f8te HEMS. Derfra transporterte HEMS meg til Melbourne for sykehusbehandling. Jeg tilbrakte tre netter p\u00e5 sykehus mens leger utf\u00f8rte tester og sjekket defibrillatoren min. De gjorde ogs\u00e5 de n\u00f8dvendige justeringene f\u00f8r jeg returnerte hjem.<\/p>\n<p>Denne PLB-redningen viste hvorfor ekstra beskyttelse er viktig i avsidesliggende Australia. Mobildekningen kan forsvinne raskt, selv med de beste leverand\u00f8rene.
