Ocean Signal has been selected as a finalist in the Innovation category for the fourth annual Maritime UK Awards.

The communication and safety at sea specialist, based in Margate, is one of three companies in contention for the honour, with the winners of all 14 categories set to be announced at an awards evening on Thursday, 9th March.

As global leaders in the design and manufacture of satellite and terrestrial emergency rescue beacons, Ocean Signal continues to grow its business and set the highest industry standards in product innovation and quality. The company announced a technology breakthrough to the industry in 2022 with the launch of the new Ocean Signal AIS Personal Locator Beacons and EPIRBs. The next generation mobile connected 406 MHz units harness multiple levels of signal technology in one compact package for the first time, including AIS, RLS (Return Link Service) and NFC (Near Field Communication), combining long and short-range detection capabilities to enhance the chance of rescue for survivors.

The Maritime UK Awards is a national celebration of all things maritime. The awards are open to organisations from across the breadth of the maritime sector and its component shipping, ports, services, engineering, and leisure marine industries.

The Innovation Award will be presented to those that can demonstrate an exceptional true commitment to innovation and have solved a particular challenge, which has then led to the successful deployment of a new product or service.

The Maritime UK Awards, held for the first time in September 2019, showcases a shortlist of finalists and category winners selected by a judging panel of internationally recognised maritime leaders. Hull was chosen as the host for the 2023 awards as a global powerhouse with over 800 years of seafaring history. This year, Maritime UK’s Patron HRH The Princess Royal will join 600 industry colleagues and partners in government for the evening celebrations.
